Hello!

A bit about me -

My Name is Georgia (or George) I'm 22 and I was unlucky enough to be involved in a pretty nasty road collision...Gosh that sounds like a spin on an Alcoholics meeting!

Before this unfortunate event I had studied for my A levels, and then completed an art foundation course with a focus on fashion and textiles before making a full U turn and turning my focus back to working with children. I never did like to keep things simple! I loved spending time with my friends and boyfriend Joss (I still do!) and even took pole dancing classes every week - for exercise purposes and laughs only I can assure you! I had a desperate urge to travel and in August 2011 I spent time in Morocco in Africa, working as a volunteer with orphans and disadvantaged babies and children.

On the 19th of August 2012 my world was turned upside down! Me and Joss had spent the day at the Safari Park before heading back to Joss's to collect some of my shoes and then travelling to my house. We had spent the day travelling on his motorbike as always. When we entered the usual island on the way to my house it all went horribly wrong, Joss got in the correct lane and indicated safely to our usual exit when another driver coming off the dual carriageway failed to stop or slow down and as Joss tried to swerve hit us. Joss was thrown to the floor dislocating his collar bone and I was thrown into the air. Somehow the same driver then managed to drive over my body and drag me a further 10 metres or so before coming to a stop with me trapped under the car. Now luckily I remember none of this and only became conscious again for a minute or so underneath the car. More details on the collision here. After being removed from under the car and flown to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital major trauma centre in Birmingham, I spent 3 days in a coma and a total of 6 weeks in hospital before coming home to start this long road to recovery. My parents were told I was unlikely to survive and it is thanks to west midlands ambulance service, the fire service, the midlands air ambulance and the amazing specialists at the QE and maybe a little miracle that I did! And I am currently learning to walk again!

This blog is a way of me keeping a log of my physical and mental progress for me and anyone else that is interested :) (It is back dated to the time of the crash) I am also hoping that it will make even just one more driver think about not just bikes but their driving in general and increase safety on the roads. Me and Joss are still desperate to travel and who knows one day I might be writing a blog post on our travels from somewhere exotic...
